Anywhere from about $17 a month to $25,000 or more, depending on who does the work. Build it yourself on a website builder and you pay a monthly plan, starting under $20. Tampa freelancers and agencies that publish their prices quote roughly $1,500 to $25,000 for a custom site, and after that every site has small ongoing costs for hosting and the domain.
How much does a small business website cost in 2026?
The price depends less on the website than on who builds it and how much of the work you do yourself. These are the four common ways to get one, with prices as published on September 17, 2026.
| Option | Up front | Ongoing | Who does the work |
|---|---|---|---|
| Website builder | $0 | Wix from $17 a month, Squarespace from $19 a month, both billed yearly | You |
| Freelancer | $1,500 to $10,000 | Hosting, domain, and any updates you pay for | Them, with your input |
| Agency | $6,000 to $25,000 or more | Often a hosting or care plan | Them |
| Website subscription | Little or nothing | A flat monthly fee | Them. Check who keeps the site if you cancel |
The freelancer and agency ranges come from thirteen05, a Tampa agency. For a wider view, GoodFirms' 2026 survey of web development firms puts a basic website at $1,000 to $3,000 and a mid-sized business website at $5,000 to $20,000. That survey covers firms around the world, not just in Florida, so the low end reflects overseas rates.
What does a Tampa web designer charge?
Few local shops publish prices, but two Tampa Bay agencies do. thirteen05 puts freelancers at $1,500 to $10,000 and agencies at $6,000 to $25,000 or more. Marca, in St. Petersburg, says most small businesses invest between $2,000 and $10,000 for a custom site.
Both are agencies that sell websites, and so are we. Read their ranges, and ours below, as a seller's view of the market.
How much does a website cost per month?
Even a site you paid for outright has a few running costs.
- The domain. The registry that runs .com charges $10.26 a year, rising to $10.97 on November 1, 2026. Your registrar adds its own margin on top.
- Hosting. For a simple, fast site it can be a few dollars: Netlify's Personal plan is $9 a month, and we run our own site on it. Website builders include hosting in their plan price.
- Updates and care. In the GoodFirms survey, 30% of firms charge $500 to $1,500 a month for ongoing work, which usually covers maintenance, content updates and small changes. You can also skip a care plan and pay per change.
- Marketing. Local SEO, ads and automated follow-up are separate from the website and billed monthly wherever you buy them.
Do you have to pay for a website monthly?
Someone always pays for hosting and the domain, but it doesn't have to be a big monthly bill. If you own the site's files, you can host them almost anywhere for very little.
If you're on a website builder or a website subscription, the monthly fee is the price of keeping the site at all. Wix, for example, says a Wix site has to be hosted on Wix's servers to work. Before you sign anything, ask what happens when you stop paying. We wrote a whole post on it: Do you own your website?
Why one quote is $1,500 and another is $15,000
It's common to get quotes ten times apart for what sounds like the same site. The difference is usually in these:
- Custom design or a template. A template is faster and cheaper. A custom design is built around how your customers decide.
- Who writes the words. Writing is real work, and many low quotes assume you'll do it.
- How many pages. A page for each service and each area you serve takes time, and it's also what gives Google something to match to a search.
- Photos. Real photos of your work beat stock photos, and someone has to take or edit them.
- What's connected. Online booking, forms that land in a customer database, and payments all add work.
- Search basics. Page titles, descriptions and structured data take little time at build and a lot of time to fix later.
- Who owns it at the end. A low price up front can mean you're renting.
What we charge
We publish our prices because almost nobody local does. These are current as of the date at the top, and we update this post when they change.
| Plan | Up front | Monthly |
|---|---|---|
| Three-page website: Home, Services and Contact. You own it | $197, for the first 25 businesses | $30 hosting, first charged 30 days after you buy |
| Foundation: a custom site up to five pages, yours outright | $2,500, or $1,500 for our first three founding clients | Nothing required |
| Growth: the site, plus local SEO, missed-call text-back and review requests | The site build, from $2,500 ($1,500 founding rate) | $400, first month waived |
| Scale: Growth, plus Google and Meta ads management | The site build, from $2,500 ($1,500 founding rate) | $750, first month waived. Ad spend is paid to Google or Meta, not marked up |
| Retrofit: keep your website, add the follow-up system | $300 setup | $200 |
Bigger sites cost more: a twelve-page plumbing site with four service areas isn't a five-page site. Either way you get one fixed number before anything starts. The details of each plan, and why the founding rate exists, are in our pricing section. The three-page site's terms, including refunds and hosting, are on its own page.
An honest note: if you only need to exist online and you're comfortable doing it yourself, a website builder is a reasonable choice. Pay a professional when the site has a job to do, like making the phone ring.
What to ask before you accept a quote
- Is the price fixed, and what would change it?
- What does it cost every month after launch, and in year two?
- Is the domain registered in my name, in an account I can log in to?
- Who owns the design, the code and the words when the work is done?
- How many rounds of changes are included, and what does a change cost after launch?
- If I cancel, what do I keep?
